Children’s Mercy does not treat parents as ordinary visitors. Parents and guardians are considered important members of the child’s care team and can remain with their child around the clock unless a clinical or safety situation requires a different arrangement.
Overnight stay
Up to two parents, legal guardians or authorized adults may stay overnight in the patient’s room under current general inpatient guidance.
Visitors under 16
Visitors younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult and cannot be left unattended.
Illness screening
All inpatient visitors are screened for illness. During periods of high community infection risk, visitor rules can become more restrictive.
Masking
Masking is generally optional, but a mask is required when a visitor has respiratory symptoms or a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis under the hospital’s current guidance.
