Choose the pediatric specialty. UPMC Children’s offers online scheduling for many services including cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pulmonology, rheumatology and urology.
Schedule online or call. New patients can use the online provider directory or call central scheduling.
Check whether a referral is required. Referral rules differ by specialty. For example, general pediatric surgery accepts self-referrals, while cardiology and pulmonology generally require a referring provider.
Verify insurance authorization. Some managed-care plans require prior authorization before specialist or hospital care.
Send outside records when requested. Prior imaging, reports, operative notes and lab results can prevent delays.
