Visitor rules, bedside limits, check-in badges, masking, and age restrictions
Visitor rules may change by unit, infection-control status, respiratory virus season, patient condition, and safety policies. Always confirm with the child’s nurse or department before traveling.
Bedside visitors
UCSF visitor guidance allows up to two visitors at the patient’s bedside. During visiting hours, the visitor list can include two primary caregivers and up to four additional visitors added before entry.
Evening / overnight
From 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., two primary caregivers may be at bedside. After 10 p.m., one primary caregiver may remain at bedside.
Children and isolation
Children under 10 may not visit patients in isolation for an infection. At both campuses, children under age 5 may not visit during respiratory virus season, typically November 1 to May 1.
Check-in badge
Visitors must wear a badge. Check in at the San Francisco information desk or Oakland ambassador’s desk and complete the brief health screening.
Masking
UCSF asks visitors to check with the department about masking requirements and strongly recommends wearing a mask indoors.
