The Houston Texas Medical Center campus is a multi-building complex. Using only “6621 Fannin Street” in navigation is not enough for every appointment. Your building matters because cardiology, surgery, outpatient clinics, medical records and emergency care are located in different towers.

What the main Pediatric Emergency Center includes

Texas Children’s describes its Texas Medical Center Emergency Center as a 53-bed pediatric emergency facility with shock/trauma resuscitation capacity, a dedicated sexual-assault examination room and specialized isolation capability. It treats both medical and surgical pediatric emergencies.

Who can accompany a child in the Emergency Center?

The current visitor policy permits up to two healthy adult caregivers with each Pediatric Emergency Center patient. Because emergency rooms have limited space, Texas Children’s recommends not bringing siblings or other children when alternative childcare is available.

Emergency fees are not a single flat amount. The final cost depends on the clinical evaluation, tests, imaging, medications, procedures, hospital/facility charges, physician services and insurance benefits. Emergency care does not require prior insurance authorization or a pre-treatment agreement under Texas Children’s current insurance guidance.

Emergency Center construction through November 2027

Texas Children’s is expanding the Medical Center Emergency Center. Construction is expected to affect access around West Tower through November 2027, while the Emergency Center remains fully operational.

  • Allow an additional 10-15 minutes for travel and parking.
  • Valet remains available at the West Tower entrance.
  • If using West Tower valet, families are instructed to cross the Bellows breezeway to reach the main West Tower entrance.
  • Valet transactions are currently completed in the Abercrombie Building.
  • Follow temporary construction signage and valet-attendant instructions.

What to ask when you call

  1. Give the child’s full name and date of birth.
  2. Tell the scheduler the specialty, diagnosis/reason for referral or specific physician requested.

Texas Children’s Hospital Parking: Best Garages, Valet Hours & Construction Tips

Parking at the Texas Medical Center campus is different from many suburban hospitals because the nearby garages are largely operated by the Texas Medical Center (TMC), not directly by Texas Children’s. Texas Children’s therefore directs families to TMC for current garage pricing.

Children visiting hospitalized patients

Children must be supervised by an accompanying adult at all times. Texas Children’s current policy says children may visit for up to four hours per day in applicable pediatric inpatient areas.

Surgery, procedure suites and cath lab

Outpatient clinics and therapies

Healthy caregivers and family members may accompany a patient, but Texas Children’s asks families to limit the number of people when possible. Individual clinics can impose tighter limits because of room size.

Visitor policies can change during seasonal respiratory illness outbreaks or for infection-control, clinical or space reasons. Unit staff have the final say for the child’s specific room and condition.

No one-price answer exists. Texas Children’s does not publish one universal pediatric doctor consultation fee, ER case fee, surgery fee, MRI price or specialist fee that applies to every family. Important facility-fee rule starting October 1, 2025

Texas Children’s states that it reduced its facility fees beginning October 1, 2025. The hospital says these facility fees are 20% lower than the averages of the top 10 pediatric hospitals used for its benchmark.
