Special rules for adolescent records

The hospital requires the patient’s signature in certain situations:

Inpatient visitor list

• Hospitalized patients may have up to 10 people on the official visitor list.
• Up to 4 visitors from that list may be on the unit at one time.
• Parents, legal guardians and the patient’s spouse/partner may visit 24/7.
• Up to four authorized adult visitors, including parents/guardians, can be approved outside standard visiting hours.
• Only 2 visitors may remain on site overnight.
• Other visitors, including siblings, visit during 10 a.m.-8 p.m. hours.

Surgery and procedures

In pre-op, post-op and recovery clinical areas, up to 2 adult visitors can be with the patient. Siblings younger than 18 are not permitted in those clinical areas. Two additional adults may be allowed to remain in the waiting area.

Outpatient clinic visits

Up to 2 adult caregivers can be with the patient in a clinic room. The hospital discourages siblings from attending routine outpatient appointments because clinic rooms can be small.

Emergency Department and urgent care

Up to 2 adult caregivers can generally be with the patient in the clinical-care space. When siblings are present, one adult may need to stay with them in a public waiting area.

Radiology, dental and sleep studies

Only one caregiver is permitted in treatment areas, and siblings are not permitted in those treatment spaces.

ID and screening

Visitors must provide identification, complete hospital security and health screening, and wear the visitor badge provided at check-in.

Weapons and prohibited behavior

Children’s Colorado is a weapons-free healthcare system. The Anschutz main entrance and Emergency Department use Evolv weapons-detection screening. Illegal drugs, alcohol, recreational marijuana and tobacco are prohibited, as is photographing or recording staff, equipment or other patient families without authorization.

Service animals

Trained service animals defined by the ADA are permitted in designated areas. Emotional-support animals, comfort animals, therapy animals and personal pets are not treated as service animals under the hospital policy. Sterile, procedure and certain clinical areas can have restrictions.
