Which entrance should you use?
Follow Riley emergency wayfinding signs to Hospital Entrance 3. Riley identifies this as the emergency entrance on the north side of the hospital.
What pediatric emergency resources are onsite?
Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
Riley describes its Indianapolis facility as Indiana’s longest-standing Level I Pediatric Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons, with an in-house pediatric trauma team available around the clock.
Pediatric clinicians onsite 24/7
Riley states that pediatric nurses, board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and trauma, orthopedic and neurosurgical resources are onsite around the clock.
Immediate intensive-care access
Children who need a higher level of care can access the PICU, NICUs, CVICU and pediatric inpatient services without transfer to a separate adult hospital.
Pediatric burn care
Riley states that it is home to Indiana’s only American Burn Association-verified burn center dedicated to children.
Behavioral Health Access Center
Riley’s ED includes onsite child psychiatry and a multidisciplinary psychiatric consultation service for children requiring behavioral-health assessment.
Child Life in the ER
Child Life Specialists can help children and families manage fear, stress and unfamiliar procedures during emergency visits.
Emergency room visitor rule
Current Riley visitor guidance allows siblings under age 18 with an adult in the Emergency Department and permits a maximum of four adults age 18 or older in the room, subject to clinical or seasonal restrictions.
Emergency parking and valet
Valet parking is available 24/7 at the emergency entrance. Riley states that the valet parks the vehicle in Wilson Street Garage. Families who prefer to park themselves can use the same garage just north of the emergency entrance.
What is the Riley Hospital emergency room fee?
Riley/IU Health does not publish one flat clinical ER fee that accurately represents every child’s emergency visit. The total can vary based on the evaluation level, laboratory tests, imaging, medication, procedures, specialty consultation, observation, surgery or hospital admission required.
For a scheduled service, IU Health’s price-estimate tools are useful. Emergency treatment is harder to estimate beforehand because the necessary services are not known until the child has been medically evaluated.
Riley Hospital phone numbers and pediatric specialty contacts
Riley publishes direct specialty numbers. Calling the specific department is usually faster than asking the main switchboard to locate an appointment office.

How to make a Riley Children’s appointment
Riley offers online scheduling for selected providers, direct specialty scheduling and eligible appointment management through My IU Health.
Riley Hospital doctors, specialists and current availability
Riley has hundreds of pediatric clinicians. A hospital-wide weekly doctor roster is not publicly published because physician clinic days, procedures, inpatient coverage, leave and appointment slots change continuously.
The following are current examples of pediatric physicians listed at Riley’s downtown Indianapolis specialty locations. The list is designed to help families identify the correct department and phone number; it is not presented as Riley’s complete medical staff roster.

What days does a specific Riley doctor work?
Riley does not maintain a public hospital-wide doctor-by-day schedule that can safely be reproduced as a permanent article. Doctors may divide their time among Indianapolis, Carmel and other Riley locations, operating rooms, inpatient services, procedures and specialty clinics.
For the most accurate answer, call the department and ask:
“I want my child to see Dr. [name] at the downtown Riley location. Which days is the doctor seeing outpatient patients at 575 Riley Hospital Drive, what is the next available new-patient appointment, and is a referral or prior authorization required?”
How much does a Riley specialist appointment cost?
Riley/IU Health does not publish one universal pediatric consultation fee. A new gastroenterology appointment, cardiology consultation, neurology evaluation and surgical consultation can have different billing codes and costs. Insurance network status, deductible and coinsurance also change the family’s actual responsibility.
For an individualized estimate, call the IU Health Price Estimates team at 317-963-2541 or 833-722-6050, or email estimates@iuhealth.org.

Riley Hospital fees, price estimates and standard charges
Hospital “prices” are not one number. IU Health provides tools intended to estimate the cost of a specific service rather than forcing families to interpret a huge charge file on their own.
IU Health currently provides real-time estimates for more than 700 frequently performed hospital services.
Toll-free 833-722-6050
Email estimates@iuhealth.org
Does Riley publish hospital charges?
Yes. IU Health publishes machine-readable standard-charge information for its hospital facilities. The current files include gross charges, discounted cash information, payer-negotiated data and other federally required pricing fields.
However, IU Health specifically directs patients who want to understand their likely out-of-pocket cost to the price-estimate tools rather than treating the standard-charge file as the amount they will personally owe.
Doctor consultation fee
There is no single Riley doctor fee that applies to every specialist. The price depends on the visit type, specialty, complexity, tests performed, whether a facility charge applies and the family’s health-plan benefits.
Emergency fee
There is also no flat clinical emergency-room fee. The currently published $5 emergency parking charge is a parking fee, not the medical cost of emergency care.
Riley billing, financial assistance and payment plans
Families who cannot afford all or part of a hospital bill should not assume that the balance shown on the first statement is their only option.
Patient Financial Services
Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m. ET, excluding major holidays.
Automated phone options are also available outside representative hours.
Riley/IU Health’s phone menu allows patients to pay by credit card or electronic check, update insurance information, request a statement or itemized statement, receive financial-assistance information, or speak with a customer-service representative.
Financial counseling
IU Health financial counselors can help families investigate programs such as Hoosier Healthwise, Medicaid and IU Health’s own Financial Assistance Program.
Phone: 888-531-3004
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Email: financialcounseling@iuhealth.org
Who may qualify for assistance?
IU Health states that an Indiana resident receiving qualifying care may be eligible for financial assistance when paying the medical bill would create financial hardship. Patients meeting applicable Federal Poverty Level criteria may be eligible for assistance up to the full qualifying bill.
IU Health also states that when income is above those poverty-level criteria but the amount owed exceeds 5% of annual household income, the patient may be eligible for a discount reducing the qualifying patient balance to 5% of annual income.
2026 uninsured AGB information for Riley
For 2026, IU Health publishes an Amounts Generally Billed (AGB) percentage of 28.39% for Riley at IU Health. That corresponds to a 71.61% AGB discount for qualifying uninsured facility services.
Payment plans
IU Health states that payment-plan options are available to all patients regardless of whether they qualify for financial assistance. Contact Patient Financial Services or a financial counselor before ignoring a balance you cannot pay in full.
Insurance at Riley Hospital for Children
Insurance participation can differ by exact plan, physician and service. A carrier’s logo on an insurance card is not enough to confirm that every Riley clinician is in-network.
Current Riley/IU Health physician profiles commonly list plans from organizations such as:
This should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every product under those companies is covered. Some profiles list particular Marketplace, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage or employer-network products separately.
Before a scheduled specialty visit
- Give Riley the full plan name and member information shown on the insurance card.
- Ask the insurer whether the specific Riley physician is in-network.
- Ask whether the hospital/facility is separately in-network.
- Confirm referral or prior-authorization requirements.
- Ask about deductible, copay and coinsurance.
- For surgery, ask whether anesthesia, pathology, radiology or other professional groups may bill separately.
Riley Hospital visiting hours and unit-specific visitor rules
Riley’s general visiting hours are 8 a.m.–9 p.m. daily, but pediatric intensive-care, NICU, burn, maternity and other units use more specific rules.
Riley’s current inpatient visitor guideline document is dated October 6, 2025. Riley also warns that seasonal restrictions may be added, so the child’s care team has the final current rule.
