Emergency physician availability

Riley states that pediatric physicians are on site at all times in its downtown Emergency Department. Board-certified pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric nurses and pediatric specialists support emergency care around the clock.

Riley’s trauma and emergency program lists 24/7 access to:

Behavioral-health emergency support

Riley’s downtown ER also includes a Behavioral Health Access Center with onsite child psychiatry resources and multidisciplinary psychiatric consultation support for pediatric patients.

Child Life in the ER

Child Life specialists help reduce fear and anxiety during emergency visits. Riley states that Child Life support is available 24 hours a day for emergency patients and families.

ER parking and valet

Current ER parking information lists a $5 parking charge whether the family uses the ER valet or self-parks in the Wilson Street Garage. The valet service itself does not add another valet fee.

If arriving separately or parking yourself, the Wilson Street Garage is immediately north of the Emergency Department.

Riley’s current EMS trauma information states that the Emergency Department has four pediatric trauma bays equipped for procedures, ultrasound, intubation and monitoring.

The operating rooms have at least two in-house teams 24/7, additional teams on call and a trauma OR kept ready for emergency cases.

Whole blood is also available in the Emergency Department for resuscitation when clinically required.

Riley describes its 37-bed PICU as one of the nation’s high-acuity pediatric intensive-care units, with access to all major pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties.

Riley’s current 2026 referring-physician material describes the Simon Family Tower as having a 60-bed Level IV NICU. Families should ask the care team which NICU their baby is located in because visitor routing differs between Simon Family Tower and Maternity Tower.

Free maternity valet

Maternity Tower patients and support partners may use free valet at the Maternity Tower entrance 24 hours a day, for up to two vehicles per patient.

2026 Federal Poverty Level criteria

Hardship rule above the FPL threshold

IU Health’s 2026 policy states that an uninsured or underinsured patient may qualify for hardship assistance when the outstanding patient responsibility is more than 5% of annual household income.

If approved under the hardship provision, the eligible patient balance may be reduced to 5% of annual household income.

Financial counselors can also help families explore Indiana programs such as Hoosier Healthwise, Medicaid and other coverage resources.

The Simon Family Tower Garage is on Riley Hospital Drive just south of 10th Street. It is the primary garage for:

• Parents/guardians of admitted Riley patients.
• Hospital visitors.
• Maternity Tower patients who prefer self-parking.

The garage provides direct access to the Simon Family Tower entrance and 24/7 main lobby.

Riley Outpatient Center Garage

This is normally the most convenient choice for an appointment in the Riley Outpatient Center at 575 Riley Hospital Dr..

• Wheelchair/accessible spaces available.
• First-floor clearance: approximately 8 ft 2 in.
• Remaining-floor clearance: approximately 7 ft 6 in.
• Validated discounted parking for outpatient families on appointment day.

Current unit visitor limits

Overnight visitors

Riley’s current guidelines list Simon Family Tower overnight access as parent, guardian or designee only, with up to two adults. Visitors younger than 18 are not permitted overnight under the standard guideline.

Masks and illness

Riley currently states that masks are not routinely required but remain available. Visitors who have a cold, sore throat, fever or other illness should postpone the visit.

The pharmacy provides discharge prescriptions and supports pediatric medication needs. Riley also has dedicated inpatient and hematology/oncology pharmacy services.

General X-rays do not require an appointment and are available on a walk-in basis during outpatient Radiology operating hours.

The first-floor Grab N Go Market beside the Maternity Tower Atrium is available 24 hours every day and is credit-card only.

Patient room service

Patient meals can be ordered seven days a week from 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m.. Call 317-944-9575.

Breakfast is available all day; lunch/dinner selections are served from 11 a.m.–7:30 p.m.. Riley asks families to allow approximately 45 minutes for delivery.

Guests can purchase trays and dine in the patient’s room.

Riley provides wagons for small children and infants. They are available in the Simon Family Tower and Riley Outpatient Center lobbies or through a nursing unit.

House capacity and amenities

The IU Indianapolis-campus Ronald McDonald House has 46 guest rooms and six continuing-care apartments.
