Raleigh General reports treating more than 50,000 Emergency Department patients annually. The Emergency Department is staffed 24/7 by emergency physicians, nurses and other trained emergency personnel.

Level III Trauma Center capabilities

Raleigh General’s trauma program provides prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive-care support and stabilization for seriously injured patients. Level III standards include immediate 24-hour emergency-physician coverage and prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists.

The trauma team can also involve trauma-trained orthopedists, pharmacists, operating-room staff, ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, laboratory staff, case management and rehabilitation professionals.

Heart attack and cardiac emergency capability

Raleigh General is an accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI. Its interventional cardiac program maintains ST-elevation myocardial infarction call coverage 24/7 and can perform catheter-based coronary intervention for appropriate emergencies.

When Raleigh General says to seek labor guidance

Contact your maternity provider for regular contractions increasing in intensity, water breaking, heavy bleeding, decreased fetal movement, severe pain, fever or other concerning symptoms. If you cannot reach your provider and have urgent concerns, Raleigh General advises coming to Labor and Delivery or calling 911 for an emergency.

Pre-registration can be completed online or during a prenatal visit to reduce registration work when labor begins.

Important visitor rules

• Children under age 10 are generally not permitted as visitors.
• Unit managers may approve case-by-case exceptions.
• Visitors requesting access outside normal hours need approval from the unit charge nurse.
• Security may confirm after-hours visitor approval with the clinical unit.
• Overnight visitation must be coordinated with the charge nurse or nurse manager.
• Clinical care, infection prevention and patient condition can limit the number of visitors.
• Patients may identify their chosen support person consistent with hospital policy.

If a final bill is at least $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate, federal law provides a process for disputing the bill.
