Parkland first opened in 1894 and has grown into one of the largest public hospital systems in the United States. Parkland Memorial Hospital is its flagship hospital and the primary teaching hospital for UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Parkland’s system includes the main hospital, specialty clinics on and around the Southwestern Medical District campus, community health centers, women’s health locations, pediatric services, mobile medical programs and other public-health services across Dallas County.

Parkland became the first certified Level I Trauma Center in Texas in 1983. Parkland says its trauma program maintains 24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons trained in trauma and critical care, with rapid availability of specialties including orthopedics, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, plastic surgery, oral/maxillofacial surgery, pediatrics and critical care.

The Rees-Jones Trauma Center is Parkland’s dedicated trauma facility. Parkland reports that more than 7,500 injured patients are admitted for trauma care annually.

Where to park for the Emergency Department

Parkland has a dedicated Emergency Department Lot beside the ER on Harry Hines Boulevard. The lot is open 24 hours a day.

If a condition needs prompt evaluation but is not life-threatening, Parkland directs patients to same-day primary-care options or its Urgent Care Emergency Center.

Parkland’s urgent-care service is intended for non-life-threatening illness and injury. Examples of same-day clinic conditions listed by Parkland include cough, runny nose, sore throat, ear pain and certain acute concerns.

Parkland’s Women & Infants Specialty Health program covers routine gynecology, prenatal care, high-risk pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum services, neonatal intensive care and family planning.

Parkland’s Nurse Line at 214-266-8777 is available 24 hours a day for pregnancy and women’s-health questions. Emergency pregnancy symptoms still require emergency evaluation rather than waiting for routine clinic advice.

Parkland’s Burn Center was established in 1962 and is a major regional adult and pediatric burn center. In September 2025, Parkland announced that the center had again been re-verified as an adult and pediatric burn center by the American Burn Association and American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

The center treats more than 2,200 burn patients annually and provides emergency treatment, Burn ICU care, acute-care hospitalization, rehabilitation and outpatient follow-up.

DART Rail

Parkland’s main medical district is served by the Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Station. DART rail can be a practical option for visitors who do not need a vehicle during their hospital stay.

Parkland’s current visitor policy says the number of people permitted in inpatient areas is determined by nursing staff on a case-by-case basis. This allows the care team to account for room size, patient condition, procedures and safety.

Official Parkland price-transparency data

Parkland publishes a federal hospital price-transparency Machine Readable File containing standard charges for inpatient admissions and outpatient hospital services. Parkland’s current price-transparency page states that the file was last updated May 29, 2026.

Parkland warns that the standard-charge file is not a guarantee of a patient’s final responsibility because insurance benefits, medical condition, extra procedures, pharmaceuticals and some professional physician services can change the final amount.

Good Faith Estimate

Patients who do not have insurance or are not using insurance can request a Good Faith Estimate for scheduled non-emergency care. Parkland notes that the estimate can include expected hospital services, tests, medications and related scheduled costs.

Parkland states that it accepts most major insurance plans. Current categories include private commercial insurance, ACA Marketplace plans, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, military plans, selected dental networks and behavioral-health products.

Patients can pay through Parkland MyChart, including guest-pay options. MyChart also allows patients to review balances and payment history.

Parkland Financial Assistance (PFA) helps eligible patients with the cost of medically necessary services provided by Parkland. It is not health insurance.

Parkland currently says patients with household income below 250% of the Federal Poverty Income Level may be eligible to apply, subject to program requirements.

What a written request should include

• Patient name used during treatment.
• Date of birth.
• Requested treatment dates.
• Exact records requested.
• Where records should be sent.
• Purpose of the request.
• Signature and date.
• Copy of valid photo identification.

Parkland says it does not accept medical-record requests by email because a signature is required. The Release of Information office says it attempts to answer requests within 15 business days.

Copy fees can apply and are based on Texas rules. Parkland sends an invoice when fees are required before records are mailed.

Parkland operates pharmacy services throughout its hospital and outpatient network. One of the most useful main-campus options is the Ron J. Anderson, MD Pharmacy, which Parkland identifies as operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Parkland also operates pharmacies at selected community health centers, allowing many patients to combine clinic, lab and prescription services in one location.

Free interpreter services

Parkland provides interpretation and translation services 24 hours a day, seven days a week at no cost to patients and families.
