Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital provides pediatric care ranging from routine specialty consultations to highly complex neonatal intensive care, organ transplantation, congenital heart surgery, pediatric cancer therapy and pediatric trauma.

The hospital is affiliated with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and functions as a major pediatric referral center for New York City, the tri-state region, the United States and international patients.

Level I Pediatric Trauma Center

Programs treat seizures and epilepsy, cerebral palsy, movement disorders, brain and spinal tumors, cerebrovascular disease, metabolic disorders, neuromuscular disorders and complex pediatric neurosurgical conditions.

The kidney team provides medical kidney care, dialysis, transplant evaluation, transplant surgery coordination and long-term post-transplant follow-up.

The hospital provides pediatric oncology and hematology care for leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, blood disorders and patients requiring stem cell transplantation. Darrell J. Yamashiro, MD, is currently listed as Chief of the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation.

Child Life support is available for the pediatric oncology, hematology and bone marrow transplant services. Families can also work with social workers for emotional support, discharge planning and practical resources.

NYP’s family-centered visitor information also recognizes the patient’s and parent/guardian’s right to decide when visitors are appropriate. To maintain a safe bedside environment, the hospital currently limits the bedside to no more than two visitors at a time.

Record-release requirements differ by the child’s age and type of information. NYP states that:

• For children under 12, the parent/legal guardian generally signs.
• For children age 12–17, signature requirements can include both the minor and guardian depending on the request and whether protected/sensitive information is involved.

Paying a hospital bill

NewYork-Presbyterian allows eligible balances to be paid through the Connect portal. Families can also use the hospital’s bill-payment tools and create payment arrangements.

NewYork-Presbyterian offers financial assistance for eligible patients and families who cannot afford all or part of medically necessary hospital expenses.

New York State residents may be considered for Charity Care for medically necessary emergency services. For non-emergency medically necessary services at Morgan Stanley/ Columbia, residency/service-area rules and financial eligibility can apply.
