When arriving in labor
Mass General’s birthing experience begins in the Labor & Delivery Unit on Blake 14. After delivery, patients generally transition to the Postpartum/Newborn Family Unit on Blake 13.
If arriving after approximately 8 p.m., current maternity instructions direct patients to check in with front-desk staff, who will route them toward the Ellison elevators.
Labor triage
After registration, a nurse evaluates the stage of labor. Current maternity guidance permits one person in the triage area, with an additional support person able to join once the patient is admitted, subject to current policy.
General Labor & Delivery visitation
- Designated support persons are welcome throughout the stay.
