Medical emergency
Go to the Emergency Department, 4500 40th Ave. NE. Park on P1 of the Forest Garage and take the elevator to the ED, or use the ED driveway for immediate curbside access during a medical emergency.

Request the physician by name if you have a preference. Ask which locations and dates that doctor currently has available.
Confirm insurance authorization separately. A medical referral and an insurance authorization are not always the same thing.

Seattle Children’s current visitor rules

The hospital’s visitor policy is based more on the type of visit and number of caregivers than one universal daily visiting-hour window.

Clinic, Urgent Care and Emergency Department visits

Seattle Children’s recommends bringing only one parent or adult caregiver when possible, but currently allows up to four people to accompany a patient. A sibling younger than one year old does not count toward that total.

Inpatient / overnight patients

  • Up to 4 adult caregivers may be in the room at one time during permitted visiting periods.
  • Up to 2 adult caregivers may stay overnight.
  • Healthy siblings age 10 or older may visit under the current general policy.
  • Siblings younger than 1 may generally visit and may stay overnight with caregivers.
  • Other younger siblings generally cannot visit unless a specific exception applies.
  • Isolation precautions can impose stricter limits.

Surgery Center

Up to 2 parents or adult caregivers may accompany the patient in the Surgery Center. A sibling younger than 1 may come and does not count toward the total. Other siblings generally are not permitted unless they are an adult designated caregiver.

Everyone age 12 and older receives a photo identification badge when entering the hospital and should wear it while inside.

Anyone who is sick should not visit. Respiratory-virus and isolation precautions can change the limits above, so the patient’s clinical unit can apply more restrictive rules when needed.

Where a parent can sleep

Most patient rooms have a sleeper chair or couch for a parent or guardian. Overnight bedside stays depend on the child’s condition, unit space and safety rules. Two adult caregivers are currently permitted overnight under the general visitor policy.

Seattle Children’s maintains a limited number of RV/trailer spaces for patient families, including water and electrical hookups. Availability should be confirmed before arrival.
