Where should ER families park?

Arthur M. Blank Hospital has a dedicated Emergency Department parking deck. This deck is reserved for patient families accessing the ER. Parking is currently free.

When the ER is more appropriate than urgent care

• Serious difficulty breathing
• Severe asthma that is not improving
• Loss of consciousness
• Seizures
• Major head or neck injury
• Severe burns
• Serious allergic reaction with breathing problems
• Heavy or uncontrolled bleeding
• Suspected poisoning requiring emergency evaluation
• Serious trauma or major fracture
• Child appears critically ill

Current masking requirement

As checked in August 2026, Children’s states that visitors over age 2 are required to wear a mask in its Emergency Department and Urgent Care locations. Because infection-control rules can change, check the current hospital notice on the day of your visit.

Walk-ins are welcome and no appointment is necessary. Families can also use the online Save My Spot feature, but Children’s specifically notes that saving a place in line is not an appointment.

Children’s also lists holiday service at Chamblee-Brookhaven, Forsyth, Hudson Bridge, Satellite Boulevard and Town Center. Hours can change because of weather, capacity or other unexpected circumstances.

Hospital and pediatric leadership

Heart Center

Children’s states that its cardiology program includes more than 60 pediatric cardiologists and sees more than 58,000 outpatient cardiology visits per year. The inpatient Children’s Heart Center is at Arthur M. Blank Hospital; many routine cardiology appointments are offered at the nearby Center for Advanced Pediatrics and regional offices.

Neurology and neurosurgery

For urgent neurology questions after hours, Children’s instructs established families to call 404-785-KIDS (5437) and request the on-call neurologist.

Doctor appointment fee

There is no single fixed Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta doctor fee. The cost can differ by specialty, visit complexity, hospital-based facility charges, tests, imaging, procedures and whether the clinician participates in your insurance network.

Emergency-room fee

Children’s does not publish a single flat ER price because emergency visits can range from a relatively simple evaluation to major trauma care requiring laboratory testing, CT/MRI, medication, procedures, specialist consultation or hospital admission.

How to get an estimate before scheduled care

Children’s publishes standard hospital charges for Arthur M. Blank Hospital as required under federal hospital-price-transparency rules. Standard charges are not the same as the amount every family ultimately pays.

Children’s states that point-of-service payments can be made by debit card, credit card or MyChart. Cash and checks are not accepted for payments made at the time of service. Arthur M. Blank Hospital itself is a cash-free facility.

Why you may receive more than one bill

Depending on the care provided, a family may receive a hospital statement plus separate charges from a physician, professional service, anesthesiology or another provider.

These figures come from Children’s 2026 Financial Assistance Policy. Eligibility also depends on the policy’s other requirements and whether the care is considered medically necessary.

Financial-assistance processing

Children’s states that review can take up to 90 days after a completed application and all required documentation are received. Families receive a decision letter explaining the determination and any remaining balance.

Financial Assistance phone hours are currently 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-noon Friday.

Medicaid counseling

Arthur M. Blank Hospital has an on-site Financial Counselor office on the first floor. Medicaid counseling can be reached at 404-785-5060.

Children’s publishes a current contracted-payer list, but specifically warns that participation can change and that an in-network hospital does not automatically guarantee every doctor treating the child is also in-network.

Before scheduled treatment

1. Call the insurer using the number on the child’s insurance card.
2. Confirm Arthur M. Blank Hospital is in-network for the exact plan.
3. Confirm the named physician or group is in-network.
4. Ask whether a referral is required.
5. Ask whether prior authorization is required.
6. Ask about deductible, copay and coinsurance.
7. Ask whether a facility fee and professional fee will be billed separately.

Accessible and expectant-mother parking

Handicap-accessible parking is available throughout the parking decks. Children’s 2026 campus guide also identifies parking for expectant mothers on Level 2 of the visitor parking deck.

Do not park at the wrong pediatric building

Entering from visitor parking

Families using the visitor parking deck can follow hospital signs from the deck into the main entrance. At the hospital entrance, visitors pass through security before registration or proceeding to the inpatient area.

Photo ID requirement

Visitors age 18 and older entering Children’s hospitals are asked to show valid photo identification at the security check-in desk. At Arthur M. Blank Hospital, that desk is in the main lobby.

Acceptable identification includes documents such as a government-issued driver’s license, state identification card or passport. After screening, visitors receive a pass that should remain visible.

Staying after normal visiting hours

Non-parent visitors who remain after regular hours must:

• Get permission from a parent/guardian and nurse
• Sign in when visiting hours end
• Show photo ID
• Wear the visitor sticker visibly

Tobacco and vaping

Children’s campuses are smoke-free and vape-free, including indoor and outdoor campus areas.

Food and coffee

25% cafeteria discount for parents

Parents of admitted patients currently receive a 25% cafeteria discount when they show their parent/guardian identification badge. The discount does not apply to outside food vendors.

Breastfeeding mothers

Mothers whose breastfeeding is the admitted child’s sole source of nutrition can receive free breakfast, lunch and dinner meal trays through room service or an eligible cafeteria discount.

Family Library

The second-floor Family Library is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily and includes books, Spanish-language materials, computers, games and educational resources.

Chapel and meditation

The interfaith chapel on the second floor is open 24/7. A separate prayer and meditation room is located nearby.

Laundry

Laundry facilities are available on every patient floor and are open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Laundry detergent can be purchased at the Gift Shop.

Bathrooms and showers

Most patient rooms have bathrooms that parents can use. Parents of ICU patients can use bathrooms and showers in the second-floor Parent Lounge.

Lactation rooms

Lactation and feeding rooms are on the second floor. Breast pumps are available for admitted patient families, and lactation consultants provide weekday on-site support.

Free family sleep rooms

A limited number of sleep rooms are available free of charge to immediate family members. They are on the second floor and are issued one night at a time. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. and checkout is 10:30 a.m.

Concierge

Hospital family-experience concierges are available 8 a.m.-8 p.m., seven days a week. From a hospital phone, call 404-785-2525.

Security, lost and found and vehicle assistance

The first-floor security office can help with lost-and-found items, escorts to vehicles, motorist assistance and in-room safe problems. From inside the hospital, call 5-6142.

Cash-free hospital

Arthur M. Blank Hospital is cash-free. A reverse ATM near the vending machines by the Gift Shop can convert cash to a payment card when needed.

Option 1: online request

Children’s secure online request system verifies identity, including a photo of the requester’s driver’s license. Most records are delivered in approximately 7-10 business days.

Option 2: MyChart

MyChart users can access available immunization information and request records not already displayed in the portal. Children’s states that requested PDFs are generally uploaded to MyChart within one to two business days at no cost.

Option 3: authorization form

Complete Children’s HIPAA-compliant release authorization and submit it by email, fax or mail. Most requests are fulfilled within 7-10 business days, although complex requests may take up to 30 days.

Medical record fees

Radiology images

X-ray, CT and MRI images can be requested separately by faxing the authorization to 404-785-5760. Children’s currently states there is no charge for radiology-image copies.

Mailed imaging CDs generally take approximately 5-7 business days for local addresses and 10-14 days for out-of-town addresses. Pickup requests can often be accommodated within 24 hours at Arthur M. Blank or Scottish Rite Hospital.

Sleep studies

Overnight sleep studies are performed in private rooms at Arthur M. Blank Hospital with a parent present. Sleep/Audiology contact: 404-785-7174.

Surgical services include pediatric general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, orthopedics, transplant surgery and other subspecialty procedures.

Heart surgery pre-op timing

For scheduled heart surgery, Children’s states that the preoperative clinic visit is generally held one day before surgery at 7 a.m.. If surgery is scheduled for a Monday, the pre-op visit is generally scheduled on the preceding Friday. Families should plan for the pre-op evaluation to take a full day.
