Baton Rouge General Medical Center: ER, doctors, appointments, maternity, burn care and patient services

Baton Rouge General is a multi-campus health system with hospitals at Bluebonnet, Mid City and Ascension. The system has served the Baton Rouge area since 1900 and operates three 24-hour emergency departments plus primary-care and specialty clinics.

If someone simply says “Baton Rouge General Hospital,” they often mean the Bluebonnet campus at 8585 Picardy Avenue, but the correct campus depends on the service: childbirth is centered at Bluebonnet, behavioral health and major rehabilitation services are at Mid City, and Ascension serves Prairieville and surrounding communities.

This guide separates those campuses so patients can quickly find the correct address, direct ER number, doctor, clinic schedule, entrance, medical-record office, pharmacy, visitor rule, billing contact and cost-help option.

Rapid evaluation of sudden neurologic symptoms.

Broken Bones

Emergency evaluation, imaging and treatment.

Burns

Emergency burn evaluation with access to specialized burn resources.

Seizures

Emergency neurologic evaluation.

Serious Infection

Live ER wait times

Baton Rouge General publishes live estimated ER wait times online. The estimates are updated frequently and measure the approximate time until a patient is seen by a medical professional.

Do not choose an ER solely by the displayed wait time. Estimates can change quickly, and patients with the most dangerous conditions are prioritized regardless of arrival order.

ER fees

There is no single fixed Baton Rouge General ER fee. A visit can include the hospital emergency charge plus physician evaluation, laboratory tests, imaging, medication, procedures, specialist consultation and admission when necessary.

Do not delay emergency treatment to obtain a price estimate. Cost-estimator tools are most useful for planned, non-emergency care.

How to schedule an appointment

Hospital procedures and physician-office visits do not always use the same scheduling route.

General appointment scheduling (225) 763-4500

Use when you need help arranging BRG care.

Centralized Scheduling (225) 381-2778

Direct department number listed by Baton Rouge General.

Know what type of appointment you need. Primary care, specialty physician visits, imaging and surgery may use different scheduling workflows.
Have the physician order or referral ready if required. Imaging and procedures often require an order.
Verify insurance authorization. Ask whether prior authorization or a specialist referral is required.
Confirm the campus and entrance. Bluebonnet alone has multiple numbered entrances and medical towers.
Check MyChart. Eligible appointments can be scheduled or managed through the patient portal.
Request an estimate before planned care. This is especially useful for surgery, imaging and procedures.

Baton Rouge General doctors and clinic hours

These are representative current providers tied to major BRG services, not the full physician roster.

Doctor timing: published clinic hours show when the office is generally open—not a guarantee that every listed physician is there every day. Physicians may be operating, rounding in the hospital or working at another clinic.
