Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is the 361-bed pediatric and obstetric hospital at 725 Welch Road, Palo Alto, CA 94304. It is the flagship hospital of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and provides highly specialized pediatric, neonatal, maternity, surgical, heart, cancer, neurologic, pulmonary and transplant care.
Families need to know that the pediatric Emergency Department is not entered at 725 Welch Road. The Marc and Laura Andreessen Pediatric Emergency Department is at 900 Quarry Road Extension, Palo Alto, with the emergency entrance on Quarry Road.
Another major 2026 change affects routine hospital arrivals: the West lobby entrance closed February 1, 2026 for a construction project expected to last about two years. During this work, patients and visitors should use the Main building entrance.

Stanford’s dedicated pediatric emergency facility is separate from the adult emergency department and provides comprehensive pediatric emergency care around the clock. The emergency entrance is on Quarry Road; follow the blue emergency signs.
Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
The Stanford pediatric Emergency Department is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, giving critically injured children direct access to pediatric emergency medicine, trauma surgery, critical care, imaging, orthopedic, neurosurgical and other specialty teams.

Why there is no single doctor fee
Patient cost depends on the specialty, whether the child is a new or established patient, tests performed, procedures, facility use, insurance network and the family’s deductible, copay and coinsurance.
A complex heart consultation, routine orthopedic follow-up, neurology visit, cancer consultation and surgical evaluation can therefore have very different total costs.

Where should regular patients and visitors park?
During the West-lobby construction period, use the Main building garage whenever possible because it is closest to the required Main entrance.
If the Main garage is full, park in the West garage. Stanford operates a 24-hour, seven-day shuttle from the West garage to the Main building.

Infection screening
Visitors are screened for contagious illness. Stanford asks families not to bring children who have symptoms of contagious disease or recent exposure to illnesses such as measles or chickenpox.
Respiratory symptoms
People with coughing, sneezing, runny nose or other respiratory symptoms are required to wear a mask to help protect vulnerable patients.
Can parents stay overnight with a child?
Pediatric patient rooms
Pediatric care units generally have space for one parent, guardian or adult family member to stay overnight.
In a private room, two parents or legal guardians may sometimes stay overnight with permission from the nurse.
Families cannot sleep in hallways, alcoves or open public spaces because of fire-code requirements.
Maternity
In a private maternity room, one adult primary support person may stay overnight. In a shared maternity room, both families must agree before an overnight guest can stay.
