Bring identification and your insurance card. Long-term or chronic orthopedic problems should generally be scheduled with an orthopedic specialist rather than handled as a walk-in injury.

Level II Special Care Nursery

IU Health West’s Special Care Nursery is a Level II neonatal intensive-care unit. IU Health reported in 2025 that the nursery had expanded from three beds when the hospital opened to 11 beds.

The unit is staffed around the clock by specialized neonatal nurses and in-house Riley Children’s Health pediatricians 24/7.

Common reasons newborns may require Special Care Nursery treatment include premature birth and respiratory problems, although the unit cares for a wider variety of newborn medical needs.

Cancer Center visitor restrictions

• Patients may currently bring up to two people to an office appointment.
• Infusion patients may have one adult visitor.
• Clinical-area visitors must be age 18 or older.
• Children under 18 are not permitted in infusion or radiation-treatment areas.
• Sick visitors should not enter cancer-treatment areas.

Parking near the Cancer Center is free.

Surgery location

The hospital map places Surgery and the Surgery Waiting area on the second floor near the Meadow elevators.

Your surgeon decides whether you need a Pre-Admission Testing appointment. Testing can include medical history review, physical assessment and diagnostic work needed to prepare safely for surgery and anesthesia.

Main-entrance valet

Valet is not available on weekends or holidays.

Drop-off

Patients may be dropped off at the Main Entrance from West 10th Street or at another entrance specified by the physician’s pre-visit instructions.

Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs are available through the Welcome Desk just inside the Main Entrance.

Entry after 9 p.m.

Hospital entry doors are locked from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.. Visitors arriving during that window should use the intercom at the entrance so hospital Security can unlock the door.

Why might I receive a separate professional bill?

Physicians such as radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, cardiologists and other specialists can provide professional services that generate separate charges, depending on the billing arrangement.

Financial hardship rule

Patients who meet the Financial Assistance Policy’s Federal Poverty Level criteria may qualify for assistance up to the full eligible medical bill.

IU Health also states that when income is above its standard FPL criteria but the patient balance is more than 5% of annual household income, the patient may qualify for a reduction that brings the eligible balance down to approximately 5% of annual household income.

IU Health Medical Group doctor charges

The current IU Health Financial Assistance program states that qualifying assistance can cover individual provider charges from IU Health Medical Group physicians. Non-IU Health Medical Group provider charges may not be covered by the IU Health policy.

Uninsured patients

IU Health says uninsured patients who receive medically necessary or emergency care receive a financial adjustment even before any additional need-based Financial Assistance for which they may qualify.

Guest meal trays

Family members and visitors can purchase guest-tray tickets from the Garden Café and call Room Service for delivery to the patient’s room.

Flowers and gifts

Flowers and gifts can be delivered to the Welcome Desk for weekday delivery to eligible patient rooms. Latex balloons and poinsettias are not permitted; Mylar balloons are allowed.
