Level II Special Care Nursery
IU Health West’s Special Care Nursery is a Level II neonatal intensive-care unit. IU Health reported in 2025 that the nursery had expanded from three beds when the hospital opened to 11 beds.
The unit is staffed around the clock by specialized neonatal nurses and in-house Riley Children’s Health pediatricians 24/7.
Common reasons newborns may require Special Care Nursery treatment include premature birth and respiratory problems, although the unit cares for a wider variety of newborn medical needs.

Patients who meet the Financial Assistance Policy’s Federal Poverty Level criteria may qualify for assistance up to the full eligible medical bill.
