1111 N. Ronald Reagan Pkwy., Avon, IN.

Hours 24 hours / 7 days

Board-certified emergency medicine physicians and advanced-practice providers.

Emergency services available

IU Health West’s full-service Emergency Department has access to hospital laboratory, imaging and specialty support. Emergency evaluation may involve:

  • Emergency physician evaluation
  • Laboratory testing
  • X-ray
  • CT imaging
  • Ultrasound
  • Medication
  • Procedures
  • Observation
  • Specialty consultation
  • Surgery or inpatient admission when required

Emergency physician example

Gregory S. Zahn, MD is currently listed by IU Health as an Emergency Medicine physician based at IU Health Emergency Medicine – Avon with hospital privileges at IU Health West.

ER physician shift schedules are not public. IU Health does not publish a dependable hour-by-hour schedule showing which individual emergency doctor will be working. Do not delay emergency care to seek a particular ER physician.

IU Health West ER fees, doctor fees and hospital estimates

There is no single flat IU Health West ER fee or universal office-visit charge. Patient cost depends on the service, diagnosis, insurance and treatment performed.

An ER bill can include

  • Emergency Department facility charge
  • Emergency physician professional charge
  • Laboratory tests
  • Radiology or imaging
  • Medication
  • Procedures and supplies
  • Specialist consultation
  • Observation care
  • Hospital admission
  • Anesthesia or surgery

Why might you see physician and hospital charges?

IU Health uses provider-based billing in some hospital outpatient settings. The physician can bill for professional medical care while the hospital bills for resources such as the building, nursing staff, equipment and supplies.

Price estimate phone numbers

IU Health Price Estimates 317-963-2541

Individualized estimate assistance.

Toll-free estimates 833-722-6050

Email: estimates@iuhealth.org

Online estimator

IU Health’s self-service price estimator provides estimates for more than 700 frequently performed medical services.

For insured patients, IU Health applies available real-time insurance benefit information to the expected cost. For uninsured patients, estimates use discounted hospital pricing and discounted professional pricing for IU Health-employed physicians.

Emergency price estimate limitation

Emergency care should never be delayed for a price quote. An estimate is most useful for scheduled, non-emergency treatment because emergency diagnostic and treatment needs are not known in advance.

How to make an appointment at IU Health West

General IU Health scheduling 888-484-3258

1-888-IUHEALTH

Cardiology 317-944-5330

Professional Office Center I, Suite 141.

Orthopedics 317-944-9400

Professional Office Center I, Suite 148.

Identify the service you need. IU Health West has separate scheduling teams for cardiology, orthopedics, OB/GYN, cancer care, surgery and other specialties.
Call the specialty directly when possible. This is generally faster than calling the main hospital switchboard.
Ask whether a referral is required. Referral rules can differ by specialty and insurance plan.
Verify insurance authorization. A physician referral does not always replace insurance prior authorization.
Confirm the exact building. Many physicians with IU Health West hospital privileges see patients in Professional Office Center I or II rather than inside the inpatient hospital.
Ask for the doctor’s actual next available day. Individual physician calendars change and are not represented accurately by generic clinic office hours.
