Southwest General’s Main Campus Emergency/Trauma Center provides emergency care around the clock. The hospital says its Level III Trauma Service has 24-hour in-house coverage by specialized physicians and nurses for seriously injured patients.

ER patient drop-off and parking help

If you need to drop off a patient and accompany them into the Main Campus ER, the hospital’s Police Department provides assistance at the Emergency entrance. Protection Services Officers can move the vehicle to the ER lot or an adjacent visitor parking lot.

This ER drop-off parking assistance is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Southwest General does not publish one universal consultation fee for every physician. A cardiologist, OB/GYN, surgeon, family physician and independent specialist can have different billing arrangements. Some clinicians are employed by Southwest General Medical Group while others are independent medical-staff physicians.

For an accurate estimate, ask the physician office for its professional charge and ask whether a separate hospital facility fee applies. For hospital services, Financial Clearance can calculate an individualized estimate at 440-816-4701, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..

Southwest General provides financial assistance for qualifying emergency and medically necessary hospital care. The hospital’s current 2026 table uses federal poverty guideline thresholds based on family size.

At the Main Campus Outpatient Center, Southwest General currently states that X-rays, EKGs and lab work do not require an appointment. More advanced imaging such as CT, MRI, mammography and other procedures should be scheduled through Central Scheduling when ordered.

The Cosgrove Maternity Center is located in Building D, third floor. It is licensed as a Level II Neonatal and Maternity Care Program.

After-hours visitor check-in

Visitors arriving between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. can obtain their visitor badge at:

• Southwest General Police Department at the Building D entrance.
• Building E lobby, first floor.
• Emergency Room waiting room, first floor of Building E.

Maternity visitor restrictions

The current hospital visitor guidance says the Special Care Nursery does not permit siblings or other visitors under age 18. On the postpartum unit, visitors under 18 are generally not permitted unless they are a sibling of the newborn.

Behavioral-health visitors

Visitors to Geriatric Behavioral Health and Oakview Behavioral Health must be 18 or older, and generally only two visitors are permitted per patient.

ER parking help

Protection Services Officers can assist people dropping off Emergency Room patients and park vehicles in the ER parking lot or an adjacent visitor lot. This assistance is available 24/7.

Community transportation

Southwest General offers curb-to-curb transportation for eligible residents who cannot arrange their own transportation. Current participating communities include Berea, Brook Park, Brunswick, Columbia Township, Middleburg Heights, North Royalton, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and Strongsville.

Trip requests are taken Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at 440-816-4046.

Three ways to access records

The hospital also accepts written requests to amend medical information when a patient believes part of the medical record is inaccurate.

Southwest General uses the HealtheLife patient portal to provide secure access to portions of a patient’s electronic medical record 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Patients can use the portal to review available health information without requesting a complete paper chart for routine access.

Discharge prescription service

Before discharge, the physician can send home-going prescriptions electronically to Southwest Community Pharmacy so they can be ready for pickup on the way out.

The pharmacy can process insurance information, check available manufacturer coupons and discuss lower-cost alternatives with the patient’s physician when appropriate.

Southwest General says the pharmacy accepts major credit cards, cash and personal checks, and most insurance plans are accepted.

How to use it

1. Tell your nurse or discharge planner that you want the Discharge Prescription Service.
2. The physician sends prescriptions electronically.
3. The pharmacy processes the prescription and insurance.
4. Pick up the medication before leaving the hospital.

Language interpreters

Southwest General states that foreign-language interpreters can be arranged for many languages. Patients can ask any staff member for interpreter help, and people scheduling a hospital stay can arrange the service ahead of time.

Hearing assistance

TTY/TDD telephone services and sign-language interpreters are available on request. Ask the nurse or hospital staff to arrange assistance.
