How to confirm the actual doctor timetable
When calling, ask:
- Is Dr. [name] accepting new patients?
- Which Children’s of Alabama location does the doctor use?
- What days is the doctor seeing clinic patients?
- What is the next available appointment?
- Does my child need a referral?
- Can we see another physician in the same specialty sooner?
- Is telehealth available for this type of visit?
Children’s of Alabama doctor fees, ER fees and hospital prices
There is no one hospital-wide pediatric consultation fee or one universal Emergency Department “case fee.”
Doctor consultation fee
Children’s of Alabama does not publish one fixed amount that every pediatric specialist charges. A cardiology consultation, neurology evaluation, oncology visit, surgery consultation or behavioral-health assessment may use different billing codes and may include separate facility and professional charges.
Why two or more bills may arrive
Emergency Department fee
No single fixed ER price represents every emergency visit. The final charges depend on the evaluation and resources used, which can include:
- Emergency physician care
- Facility resources
- Laboratory testing
- X-rays or ultrasound
- CT or MRI
- Medication
- IV therapy
- Procedures
- Trauma care
- Specialist consultation
- Observation
- Hospital admission
How to obtain an official estimate
Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Email: GFE@ChildrensAL.org.
Children’s of Alabama also publishes standard-charge and shoppable-service files. These are useful for transparency, but the hospital advises families to obtain an individualized estimate because payer contracts, deductibles and services actually performed affect the amount owed.
