Emergency physicians listed by Abbeville General

The hospital’s current medical-staff directory lists the following Emergency Medicine physicians through its facility-based emergency group:

Brian Adams, MD · Jason Charrier, MD · Lawrence Cresswell, DO · Thomas Falterman, MD · Rick Faul, MD · Ross Fremin, MD · Myriam Hutchinson, MD · Kevin Karam, MD · Trung Le, MD · Lisa Mazoch, MD · Claude Meeks, MD · Robert Ordonez, MD · Kindilo Skirlis-Zavala, MD · John Smith, MD · Michael Sonier, MD · Chukwudi Uchendui, MD.

The hospital identifies Dr. Myriam Hutchinson as Emergency Department Medical Director on its Emergency Department page.

Emergency doctor timing: the hospital publishes the names of its emergency medical staff but does not publish a public day-by-day physician shift rota. Emergency patients are treated by the clinician covering the department at the time they arrive.

Emergency fees

Abbeville General does not publish one flat ER fee that accurately represents every emergency visit. Emergency charges depend on the examination, level of service, laboratory work, imaging, medications, procedures, supplies and other care used.

The hospital also explains that physician fees—such as emergency physician, radiologist, pathologist or surgeon charges—may be billed separately from hospital charges.

Registration, pre-admission and hospital discharge

Where to go and what to bring when your visit is planned rather than an emergency.

Pre-admission hours

Day Published pre-admit hours

Bring these items

  • Photo identification.
  • Insurance cards.
  • A current list of medications.
  • Advance directives, if you have them.
  • Any physician orders or paperwork you were instructed to bring.

When admitted, hospital forms are completed and an identification band is placed on the patient’s wrist. Abbeville General advises patients not to remove this band during the stay.

Personal items

The hospital recommends basic toiletries, nightclothes, slippers and a bathrobe when appropriate. Patients remain responsible for dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids and other personal belongings. Abbeville General recommends leaving valuables at home.

Discharge

Discharge begins after the treating physician writes the discharge order. Nursing staff provide written instructions, medication information and follow-up directions, then escort the patient toward the hospital exit.

Have the ordering doctor’s information. This is especially important for imaging and procedure estimates.
Ask where to register. Do not assume every clinic or test uses the same hospital entrance.

Ask for a cost estimate if needed. The hospital provides individual estimates when sufficient service and insurance information is available.

Abbeville General Hospital fees, doctor charges and price estimates

The hospital publishes charge information, but your actual patient responsibility can differ significantly from listed charges.

Hospital charge estimate
Call 337-898-6597 during normal business hours.
Doctor consultation fee
No single hospital-wide physician consultation fee is published. The amount depends on the provider, visit type, insurance and services.
Emergency fee
There is no one flat published ER fee that represents all emergency visits.
Surgeon / radiologist / pathologist
Professional physician charges may be billed separately from the hospital estimate.
Uninsured
Ask the Business Office and Financial Aid Coordinator about payment policy and financial-assistance eligibility.

What the hospital needs to prepare an estimate

  • Detailed description of the test or procedure.
  • Ordering doctor’s name.
  • Ordering doctor’s office phone.
  • Insurance company name and contact number.
  • Policy holder’s name.
  • Policy number.
  • Group number.

The estimate can reflect deductible, copay or coinsurance information available for the planned service, but Abbeville General explicitly warns that an estimate is not an exact bill.

Hospital pricing and physician pricing are different. A hospital estimate may not include separate bills from a surgeon, emergency physician, pathologist, radiologist, anesthesiologist or another professional provider.

Insurance accepted at Abbeville General Hospital

The hospital publishes a broad in-network plan list, but individual products and physicians should still be verified before planned care.

Current health plans listed by Abbeville General include plans or networks associated with:

  • Aetna
  • AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana
  • Cigna
  • Humana
  • Louisiana Healthcare Connections
  • Medicare
  • Molina
  • Office of Group Benefits
  • PHCS
  • TriWest / military-related networks where applicable
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan
  • Workers’ Compensation networks
  • Other managed-care networks published by AGH
Insurance participation can be product-specific. A hospital may participate with one insurer’s PPO but not every HMO, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage or employer product. Verify the exact plan name on your card and confirm the physician separately.

At registration, Abbeville General asks patients to provide current insurance information and identification so the appropriate payer can be billed.

Financial assistance and sliding-fee programs

Abbeville General provides financial-assistance evaluation for patients who may have difficulty paying.

Financial Assistance Office 337-898-6593

First-floor Business Office · Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and by appointment.

Fax: 337-898-6506.

Programs published by the hospital

  • Certified Medicaid Application Center.
  • Uncompensated Care / hospital financial assistance.
  • Sliding Fee Scale for Rural Health Clinics.

What documents may be requested?

The hospital’s financial-assistance instructions ask applicants for either:

  • The previous three months of household income documentation, such as pay stubs, employer income statement, Social Security income documentation or rental receipts; or
  • The previous year’s federal income-tax return, including Schedule C for a self-employed person or business owner when applicable.

Abbeville General states that it has discounted/sliding-fee arrangements based on household size and income and that patients should contact the Financial Assistance Office to determine eligibility.

Abbeville General Hospital visiting hours

AGH publishes separate rules for general patients, ICU, maternity and Behavioral Medicine.

Important current-site discrepancy: Abbeville General currently has more than one visitor-information page displaying different general and psychiatric visiting times. One current visitor page lists general visitation as 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., while another published visitor-guidelines page lists 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.. Psychiatric-unit times also differ between these pages. Because visitation is a fast-changing operational policy, call 337-893-5466 before traveling if the exact opening time matters.

Rules consistently published across AGH visitor information

  • Only one person may spend the night with a patient when nursing staff approve it.
  • The overnight visitor must remain in the patient’s room.
  • Special exceptions may be made for critically ill patients, laboring patients, emergency surgery and pediatric situations.
  • ICU generally allows only two family members at one time.
  • Children under age 12 are not permitted in ICU.
  • Children visitors require adult supervision.
  • Maternal Child Care allows one overnight arrangement subject to unit rules.

ICU visitation

AGH’s visitor information lists ICU visitation as 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. with only two family members at a time. A sleep chair is available for one approved overnight person.

Maternal Child Care

The current general visitor page lists Maternal Child Care visitation as 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.. Children under age 14 are not allowed to spend the night.

The online system verifies identity by asking the requester to capture or upload a photo of a driver’s license. Records can then be delivered securely by email or mail.

Medical-record fees

Abbeville General’s current FAQ and electronic request page state that there is no fee for copies of medical records requested by the patient for personal use, and there is no extra charge for using the electronic request tool.

Requests from other individuals can be subject to copy fees, with payment processing handled through the hospital’s release-of-information vendor. Direct provider requests for patient-care purposes are treated differently.

Walk-in record requests

AGH advises that same-day walk-in requests are limited to 100 pages. Larger requests or extensive records may require additional processing time.

Records may be provided on paper, CD or by email depending on the request and preferred delivery method.

The Behavioral Medicine Center provides inpatient behavioral-health care for adults.
