Vca Pet Hospital: Vet Care & Contact

Official-source guide · Reviewed August 25, 2026

VCA veterinary care, appointments, doctors, costs, emergency hours & contact

If you searched for VCA Pet Hospital, the official nationwide network is VCA Animal Hospitals. VCA includes neighborhood primary-care hospitals as well as urgent-care clinics, 24-hour emergency centers, specialty referral hospitals, Pet CancerCare centers, boarding and grooming facilities, and cat-focused locations.

That variety is important. There is no single national VCA doctor schedule, examination fee, parking policy or opening time. One VCA may close at 6:00 p.m., while a VCA emergency and specialty hospital in another city may remain open 24 hours every day.

This guide therefore gives you the useful nationwide facts directly, plus real current VCA location examples for doctor names, opening hours, emergency access, consultation pricing and visit procedures. Where VCA does not publish one national price or physician timetable, that limitation is stated rather than replaced with a guessed number.

Primary veterinary care Urgent care 24/7 emergency locations Veterinary specialists CareClub wellness plans myVCA records & appointments
Emergency warning: do not assume the nearest VCA is a 24-hour emergency hospital. VCA operates both ordinary primary-care clinics and dedicated emergency centers. For a potentially life-threatening problem, use an emergency-capable hospital and call the facility while arranging prompt veterinary care.

Which type of VCA hospital should you use?

The VCA locator lets users filter hospitals by care type. Selecting the correct type before driving can prevent a wasted trip or delay.

Routine visit
Choose Primary Care for wellness exams, vaccinations, routine illness visits, parasite prevention, dental needs and other general care.
Needs care today
Choose Urgent Care for an immediate but non-life-threatening problem. VCA describes its urgent-care model as offering same- or next-day access and extended hours.
Life-threatening
Choose Emergency Care. Some VCA emergency hospitals operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Advanced condition
Choose Specialty Care for services such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, internal medicine, advanced surgery or imaging.
Cancer treatment
Look for a VCA Pet CancerCare Center. VCA currently reports 29 Pet CancerCare centers and more than 60 boarded oncologists across North America.
Boarding/grooming
VCA’s locator separately filters Boarding, Boarding & Grooming and Grooming because these services are not available at every hospital.
Cat-focused care
The official locator also provides a Cat Only filter for applicable hospitals.

How to find a VCA Pet Hospital near you

Search by exact city, address or ZIP code rather than assuming all nearby VCA facilities provide the same services.

Enter your ZIP code or city. Open VCA’s hospital locator and search your location.
Filter by the care you actually need. Select Primary Care, Emergency, Urgent Care, Specialty, Pet CancerCare, Boarding, Grooming or Cat Only.
Open the individual hospital page. Confirm the full address, phone number and today’s published hours.
Check the team and services. A hospital may be close to you but may not have the veterinarian, specialty service or equipment needed for your pet.
Check temporary-hours notices. Individual VCA pages sometimes publish temporary hours or one-off operating changes.
For emergency care, call before arrival when practical. This lets the hospital explain its current triage process and arrival instructions.

VCA Pet Hospital hours: real location examples

These current official examples show why publishing one national “VCA hours” answer would be misleading.

Holiday and temporary hours: some VCA pages explicitly label operating times as temporary. Always use the individual hospital page or direct phone line for the date you plan to visit.

VCA veterinarians: doctor names, specialties and working times

VCA publishes doctor rosters on individual hospital pages, but exact day-by-day clinician shifts are not consistently made public.

VCA’s specialty-hospital pages describe access to a nationwide network of more than 4,000 VCA veterinarians. Because doctors work at individual hospitals and schedules change, there is no trustworthy nationwide timetable showing every VCA veterinarian and every daily shift.

Current primary-care doctor example: VCA Animal Care Clinic, San Pablo

The current official team pages list these veterinarians at VCA Animal Care Clinic, 3340 San Pablo Dam Road, Suite K, San Pablo, California:

Veterinarian Role Hospital Published timing information
Michael Evans, DVM Associate Veterinarian VCA Animal Care Clinic Hospital: Mon–Fri 8am–7pm; Sat 8am–6pm.

Paulina Sergienko, DVM Associate Veterinarian VCA Animal Care Clinic Hospital: Mon–Fri 8am–7pm; Sat 8am–6pm.
Personal doctor shifts not publicly listed.

Current emergency-team example: VCA Norwalk, Connecticut

VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center is open 24/7. Its current Emergency & Critical Care page lists veterinary clinicians including:

Veterinarian Published role Department coverage
Sara D’Addario, DVM Staff Veterinarian Emergency & Critical Care department; hospital open 24/7. Individual shift not published.
Spencer Lutchen, DVM Staff Veterinarian Emergency & Critical Care department; hospital open 24/7. Individual shift not published.
Kimberly MacDonald, DVM, CCRP Staff Veterinarian Emergency & Critical Care department; hospital open 24/7. Individual shift not published.
Melissa Salgado, DVM, DACVECC Veterinary Specialist Emergency & Critical Care department; hospital open 24/7. Individual shift not published.
Hospital hours are not a doctor’s personal schedule. If VCA says a facility is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., that does not mean every veterinarian on the team is working that entire period. Publishing that assumption would be inaccurate.

How to check when a specific VCA doctor is available

Open the individual VCA hospital. Use the team page to identify the veterinarians currently listed there.
Check available appointment times in myVCA. Participating hospitals show open booking times.
Call for a specific veterinarian. Ask whether that doctor is seeing appointments on your preferred date.
Ask whether the doctor is seeing wellness, illness or procedure cases. A veterinarian may be working but assigned to surgery or another clinical duty.
Useful phone wording: “I would like my pet to see Dr. [name]. Which days is the doctor seeing appointments this week, and what is the earliest available time?”

VCA vet fees: examination price, consultation costs and case charges

VCA does not publish one nationwide fee schedule because hospitals and markets price services differently.

Official price disclosure: VCA’s current 2026 new-client offer terms state that the regular first-exam price range for New Jersey residents is $75–$150. This is a New Jersey disclosure, not a nationwide VCA examination price.
Cost question What VCA currently publishes What you should confirm
Routine examination No single nationwide price. Current examination fee at your exact VCA hospital.
New Jersey first exam Regular price range $75–$150 Whether you qualify for the current new-client offer.
CareClub Access Starts at $19.99/month Location-specific plan and pet-specific pricing.
CareClub enrollment Select plans: $49.99 enrollment fee Whether the plan offered to your pet has this fee.
Emergency exam No network-wide dollar amount. ER exam charge plus expected diagnostics/treatment.
Specialist consultation Location and specialty specific. Consultation fee and whether a referral is required.
Vaccines No single nationwide vaccine price chart. Vaccine price plus whether an exam charge also applies.
Diagnostics Charged according to services performed. Blood work, urinalysis, fecal testing, X-ray, ultrasound or other testing.

What usually changes the final VCA bill?

  • Type of examination
  • City and hospital location
  • Vaccinations
  • Blood work
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal or parasite tests
  • X-rays or ultrasound
  • Prescription medications
  • Emergency stabilization
  • Specialist consultation
  • Hospitalization
  • Anesthesia
  • Surgery
  • Dental procedures
  • Advanced imaging such as CT or MRI
Ask for the total-estimate structure, not only the exam price: “What is the examination fee, and which likely tests, vaccines or treatments would be additional?”

VCA Free First Exam: what is actually included?

VCA currently advertises a new-client WELL come Bundle, but its terms clearly limit what the free examination covers.

Current offer Free First Exam

The qualifying exam includes a general health assessment covering matters such as weight, nutrition, overall health, parasite discussion, dental review and vaccination overview.

Additional current benefit Free First Dose

A qualifying new patient may receive an eligible parasite-prevention dose when the attending veterinarian determines that the product is appropriate and dispenses it during the visit.

Who may qualify?

  • New VCA clients
  • Clients not seen at VCA for three or more years
  • Eligible existing clients adding a new pet
  • Dogs and cats under the current offer terms
  • Maximum of two eligible pets per household
  • Pet owner must meet the offer’s age requirement

What is not included in the free exam?

VCA’s current terms exclude the free-exam offer from:

  • Emergency veterinary services
  • Urgent-care services
  • Specialty consultations
  • Telemedicine services
  • Diagnostics
  • Medical treatments
  • Vaccines
  • Medications
  • Retail products
  • Boarding
  • Grooming
Important: “Free First Exam” does not mean the entire veterinary visit is free. If the veterinarian recommends vaccines, laboratory tests, medication or treatment, those services can have separate charges.

VCA emergency vet hours, ER hospitals and emergency fees

VCA has genuine 24-hour emergency hospitals, but emergency coverage is location-specific.

Current VCA 24-hour emergency examples

Emergency hospital Address Hours Phone
VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center 7675 Mission Valley Road
San Diego, CA 92108
Open 24 hours every day 619-299-2400
VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center 1535 South Sepulveda Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90025
Open 24 hours every day 310-473-5906
VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center 123 W. Cedar Street
Norwalk, CT 06854
Open 24 hours every day 203-854-9960

What does a VCA emergency exam cost?

VCA does not publish one nationwide dollar amount for an emergency examination. The fee depends on the emergency hospital and local pricing. The final bill may also contain charges for stabilization, laboratory testing, imaging, medication, oxygen, surgery, hospitalization or specialty care.

Current pricing example without a published dollar amount: VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk currently states that reduced pricing applies to Emergency Care Exams and Consultations at that hospital, effective December 8, 2025. The page does not publish a universal dollar amount, so this should not be converted into a guessed emergency fee.

Current 24-hour emergency team example: Los Angeles

VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center’s current Emergency & Critical Care roster includes clinicians and criticalists such as:

  • Shaun Ino, DVM
  • Andres Ixtlahuac, DVM
  • Ingrid Judge, DVM
  • Melissa Ong, DVM
  • Roxanne Regalado, DVM
  • Brittany Shuster, DVM
  • Nicole Spurlock, DVM, DACVECC
  • Tricia Tovar, DVM, DACVECC
  • Sharmei Vicente, DVM
  • Kimberly Vu, DVM
  • Kelleigh Waters, DVM
  • Jordan Ziegler, DVM, DACVECC

The emergency department is open 24/7, but VCA does not publish an exact hour-by-hour shift for each clinician on that public roster.

Examples of problems VCA treats as emergencies

  • Major trauma or serious injury
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Serious bite wounds
  • Ongoing seizures
  • Collapse or loss of consciousness
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Inability to urinate
  • Severe abdominal distension or bloating
  • Heat-related emergencies
  • Suspected fracture
  • Serious eye trauma or sudden vision loss

VCA emergency virtual waiting room

VCA’s hospital locator currently includes an Emergency Virtual Waiting Room. Owners can submit their contact details, pet information and a description of the problem. VCA states that hospital associates contact owners according to triage protocols, and owners should call immediately if the pet’s condition changes.

Virtual waiting does not replace emergency triage. If your pet appears critically ill or rapidly worsens, call the emergency hospital directly rather than waiting for an online response.

VCA Urgent Care: same-day or next-day non-emergency visits

VCA Urgent Care is designed for problems that need attention sooner than a routine appointment but do not appear to be life-threatening. VCA currently promotes same- or next-day availability, virtual waiting-room access and extended hours at designated urgent-care locations.

Examples of conditions VCA lists among urgent-care needs include:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Ear infections
  • Itchy skin or rashes
  • Fleas, ticks or mites
  • Runny nose, coughing or sneezing
  • Loss of appetite
  • Minor lacerations or abrasions
  • Limping or pain
  • Lethargy
  • Eye issues
  • Urinary concerns
  • Some acute toxin-exposure concerns after triage
Urgent care vs. ER: if a pet has a potentially life-threatening condition, choose emergency care rather than waiting for an urgent-care appointment.

Veterinary services available through VCA

Exact services vary by hospital. A neighborhood primary-care clinic and a regional specialty center should not be treated as equivalent facilities.

Wellness exams

Routine physical examinations and preventive-health discussions for companion animals.

Vaccinations

Veterinarian-recommended vaccines based on age, species, health and risk.

Parasite prevention

Heartworm, flea, tick and intestinal-parasite testing/prevention where appropriate.

Dental care

Oral examinations and dental procedures at participating locations.

Laboratory diagnostics

Blood testing, urinalysis, fecal testing and other laboratory work.

Radiology

X-rays at many hospitals, with advanced imaging available through selected centers.

General surgery

Routine and soft-tissue procedures at qualified primary-care hospitals.

Emergency medicine

Emergency and critical-care services at dedicated VCA ER facilities.

Urgent care

Same- or next-day non-emergency veterinary access at VCA Urgent Care locations.

Specialty medicine

Referral-level medical and surgical services at regional specialty hospitals.

Cancer care

Oncology care through VCA Pet CancerCare centers and specialist departments.

Boarding & grooming

Available at selected VCA facilities rather than throughout the entire network.

VCA specialty hospitals and referral services

Specialty hospitals handle medical problems that require advanced training, equipment or procedures. Depending on location, VCA specialty departments can include:

  • Cardiology
  • Emergency & Critical Care
  • Internal Medicine
  • Neurology and neurosurgery
  • Oncology
  • Radiation oncology
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Soft-tissue surgery
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • CT
  • MRI
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Ophthalmology
  • Physical rehabilitation
  • Interventional procedures at selected centers

Example: VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center, Los Angeles

The hospital at 1535 South Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025 is currently open 24/7 and lists departments including Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology and Surgery.

How a specialty referral can work

At referral centers, the primary veterinarian may submit a referral form and pertinent medical records before the specialty appointment. Emergency care does not necessarily follow the same referral process, so check the individual hospital.

Primary veterinarian identifies the specialty need. Examples include cardiology, neurology, oncology or advanced surgery.
Referral information is submitted. This can include the referral form and relevant diagnostic records.
Records are reviewed by the specialty hospital. The facility may request additional information before scheduling.
The client or referring clinic schedules the consultation. Exact procedure varies by VCA specialty hospital.

How to make an appointment at VCA

VCA offers direct hospital scheduling and online appointment tools at participating locations.

Find the correct VCA hospital. Search using your ZIP code, city or address.
Confirm the service type. Primary care, urgent care, specialty and emergency facilities follow different workflows.
Select “Book Appointment” when available. myVCA can display open appointment times at supported hospitals.
Choose the visit reason. Wellness, illness, recheck and other appointment types may show different availability.
Add records when requested. VCA’s current booking process can accept previous vaccination history, visit notes and diagnostic information.
Request a specific doctor if needed. Call the hospital when the booking interface does not show clinician-level availability.
Ask about the fee before arrival. Confirm the exam price and whether expected services will cost extra.
If online booking says unavailable: current VCA pages sometimes display “Appointment booking is not available this time” and direct clients to contact the hospital directly.

What to bring to your first VCA visit

Medical information

  • Previous veterinary records
  • Vaccination history
  • Previous test results
  • Adoption records when useful
  • Current medication list
  • Known allergies or previous reactions

Visit information

  • List of current symptoms or concerns
  • Diet and feeding information
  • Parasite-prevention products
  • Pet-insurance details
  • CareClub membership information
  • New-client coupon if applicable

What happens during a first wellness exam?

VCA describes the first visit as including a head-to-tail physical assessment. The veterinarian may examine areas such as the skin and coat, eyes, ears, teeth and gums, heart, lungs and other body systems while reviewing the pet’s general history and preventive-care needs.

Topics can include:

  • Vaccination history
  • Parasite prevention
  • Dental health
  • Nutrition
  • Spay/neuter considerations
  • Microchipping
  • Breed- or age-related health concerns
Laboratory and imaging charges: blood work, urinalysis, stool testing and radiographs are not automatically part of a basic exam merely because the veterinarian recommends them.

VCA CareClub cost, benefits and important limitations

CareClub is a preventive-care membership, not traditional pet insurance.

Current advertised starting price $19.99/month

VCA currently promotes CareClub starting at this level for access to unlimited eligible exams.

Select-plan enrollment fee $49.99

VCA states that select plans have a $49.99 enrollment fee. Personalized care plans can cost more than the starting level.

CareClub services can include

  • Unlimited eligible wellness exams
  • Sick examinations on qualifying plans
  • Recheck examinations
  • Urgent-care exam fees
  • Emergency exam fees at qualifying VCA locations/plans
  • One Specialty Care consultation under current plan terms
  • Doctor-recommended vaccines on applicable plans
  • Fecal testing
  • Selected blood panels
  • Urinalysis on applicable plans
  • Heartworm testing
  • Deworming where included
  • Microchipping
  • Optional dental-cleaning add-ons on applicable plans
  • Optional spay/neuter add-ons on applicable plans
  • 24/7 Live Chat in the myVCA app

BluePearl emergency/specialty benefit

VCA’s current CareClub terms provide qualifying members with one waived fee up to $300 for an emergency or specialty consultation at a participating BluePearl Pet Hospital per annual membership year, in addition to the applicable VCA Specialty Care consultation benefit.

The BluePearl benefit does not make the entire ER visit free. VCA’s terms state that other services and products—including emergency stabilization, treatment, diagnostic testing, medication and hospitalization— can still generate charges.

CareClub is not pet insurance

CareClub pays for the preventive-care services specifically identified in the member’s plan agreement. It should not be interpreted as comprehensive financial protection against every unexpected illness, injury, hospitalization or surgery.

Annual commitment

VCA describes CareClub as a year-long preventive-care membership. Current FAQs state that cancellation during the term is restricted except for qualifying circumstances described in the agreement.

VCA payment methods, CareCredit and pet insurance

Payment methods are hospital-specific, but current VCA hospital pages commonly identify CareCredit and pet-insurance resources.

CareCredit

Many VCA locations accept CareCredit for eligible veterinary expenses such as procedures, medication and other services, subject to credit approval.

Check the exact hospital before relying on financing availability.

Trupanion

Many VCA hospital pages state that they work with Trupanion and can assist with pet-insurance claim filing. Some locations accept qualifying Trupanion payment at checkout.

CareClub vs. pet insurance

Question CareClub Pet insurance
Main purpose Planned preventive care Coverage depends on insurer and policy
Routine exams Included on qualifying plans Policy dependent
Vaccinations Included on selected plans May require wellness coverage/add-on
Unexpected major treatment Not general insurance coverage May qualify under policy terms
Before an expensive procedure: ask the hospital for the estimate, what must be paid at check-in/discharge, whether CareCredit is accepted, and how your pet-insurance claim can be handled.

Transferring medical records to VCA

VCA appointment tools can request prior vaccination information, medical notes or diagnostic records. When appropriate, owners can also provide details for the previous veterinary hospital so relevant records can be obtained.

myVCA technical support is not a medical service. VCA’s support page states that technical-support staff cannot answer medical questions, book appointments or manage food/prescription orders. Medical concerns belong with the treating hospital.

Shop myVCA return basics

VCA’s current return policy states that prescription products generally cannot be returned, although refunds may be issued for incorrect or damaged prescription items. Certain eligible unopened non-prescription products can qualify for a return under the policy.

VCA parking, vehicle access and arrival instructions

There is no nationwide VCA parking fee or single parking layout. Parking must be checked at the individual hospital.

Real parking example: VCA Blum Animal Hospital, Chicago

VCA Blum Animal Hospital currently publishes specific parking directions for its location at 3219 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60657. Its official instructions route drivers through Aldine Avenue and Dayton Street to the hospital parking lot depending on the direction of approach.

This is a good example of why users should look for the local hospital’s own parking instructions rather than assuming every VCA has the same setup.

Curbside example

Some VCA locations publish curbside arrival instructions requiring clients to call or text with their name, pet’s name and parking-space/location information, then remain in the vehicle until staff provide instructions.

Before driving to VCA

  • Confirm the exact hospital address.
  • Confirm that it provides the service you need.
  • Save the hospital’s direct phone number.
  • Check for parking instructions on the location page.
  • Ask whether curbside check-in is currently used.
  • Keep dogs appropriately restrained.
  • Transport cats in a secure carrier.
  • Tell staff if your pet is fearful, reactive or difficult to move.
  • For an emergency, ask whether you should call from the parking area on arrival.
Accessibility help: VCA’s visit pages state that owners should tell the team when a pet is particularly stressed, and some hospitals can assist with practical arrival needs such as bringing a carrier to the vehicle.

Language and interpretation assistance

Some VCA hospitals currently publish access to remote interpretation services for clients who do not speak English and for American Sign Language communication. Availability should be confirmed with the individual hospital when interpretation is needed for a visit.

If you need an interpreter, request the service when scheduling so the hospital can explain what is available at that specific facility.

VCA Pet Hospital FAQs

These answers focus on the questions people most commonly need before contacting or visiting VCA.

1. How much does a VCA vet visit cost?
VCA does not publish one nationwide examination price. Fees vary by hospital. VCA’s current 2026 new-client offer terms state that the regular first-exam price range for New Jersey residents is $75 to $150, but that disclosure should not be treated as the price at every VCA hospital in the United States.
2. Does VCA offer a free first exam?
VCA currently advertises a Free First Exam for qualifying new clients, clients not seen for three or more years and eligible existing clients adding a new pet. The exam does not include emergency, urgent, specialty or telemedicine care, diagnostics, treatment, vaccines, medication, boarding, grooming or retail products.
3. Is VCA Pet Hospital open 24 hours?
Not every VCA is open 24 hours. Many primary-care hospitals operate daytime or evening hours and may close on Sunday. Dedicated VCA emergency hospitals such as VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center in San Diego and VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk are currently open 24 hours every day.
4. What is the VCA emergency exam fee?
VCA does not publish one nationwide emergency-exam fee. The price depends on the specific emergency hospital. Diagnostics, medication, stabilization, treatment, surgery and hospitalization can add to the final bill.
5. How can I find the veterinarians working at my VCA hospital?
Open the individual hospital’s “Our Team” section. VCA commonly lists its current veterinarians and biographies there. Exact daily shifts are not consistently published, so call the hospital when you need a specific doctor on a specific day.
6. Can I book a VCA appointment online?
Participating VCA hospitals support online booking through VCA/myVCA. When online scheduling is unavailable, VCA directs clients to contact the individual hospital directly.
7. How much does VCA CareClub cost?
Current VCA CareClub pages advertise plans starting at $19.99 per month. Personalized plan prices vary according to the pet and selected services, and select plans currently have a $49.99 enrollment fee.
8. Is VCA CareClub pet insurance?
No. VCA describes CareClub as a preventive pet health-care membership rather than pet insurance. It covers only the services and products identified in the selected CareClub agreement.
9. How do I get my pet’s VCA medical records?
Existing clients can use myVCA for health information and patient documents. For a complete transfer to another veterinarian or specialist, contact the treating VCA hospital if the required records are not available in the account.
10. What VCA phone number should I call?
VCA’s toll-free corporate line is 1-800-966-1822. VCA also lists 1-800-VCA-PETS for veterinary-service questions and 1-800-743-8838 for CareClub support. Appointments, medical questions and specific doctor schedules should normally go directly to the local hospital.

How this guide was verified

Information in this page was checked against current official VCA Animal Hospitals pages including VCA’s hospital locator, corporate contact page, hospital/team pages, emergency and specialty departments, CareClub information, myVCA materials, new-client offer terms and Shop myVCA policies.

Official links are used mainly where a live action is necessary—such as selecting your local hospital, booking an appointment, checking an offer, accessing CareClub, or locating an emergency facility. Operational details that vary by location should always be confirmed for the specific VCA hospital involved.
